Ms. Susan:
I grew up in New Hampshire and moved to California in 1993. I have a B.S. in early childhood education and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of New Hampshire. I have taught for 16 years, kindergarten, 2nd grade, 5th grade for 6 years, and now at Creekside: 6th grade for 7 years, and 5th grade math for 3 years. Then I stayed at home with our 3 boys. I also taught parenting classes and facilitated classes for the Family Resource Center of Truckee for 7 years. My husband and I live in Truckee with our boys that are 17 and 14 year old identical twins. If I was not at home, I was adventure racing around the world. For 13 years, I have been lucky enough to adventure race, sometimes with my husband.
I bring my adventure racing experience, which is mainly about teamwork and pushing oneself, into the classroom. Adventure racing is about working as a team to reach to a common goal. You cannot get to a goal without preparation, I create a class that everyone has a sense of belonging and has the skills to succeed, emotionally and mentally. Inspiring the students to go beyond their limits is my main goal for each student. Our class is a safe, fun, exciting, and challenging environment so we can all enjoy learning and being in the classroom. Being on a successful team means everyone will grow, learn, and transform.
